Construction and renovation

Would you like to build or renovate your business premises? For this you’ll need a permit, which will be issued once your plans comply with the city’s planning regulations.

Free initial consultation

What options do you have for renovation or building from scratch? How do you apply for a planning permit for your construction project? You’ll get answers to these questions through a free consultation with the Business Desk.

What should you bring?

  • A plan or sketch of the building as it stands now
  • Photos of the plot, the adjacent buildings or the immediate environment
  • A plan of the desired finished building and premises. Be sure to specify:
    • The measurements of the premises and total depth of the plot
    • The function (such as offices, retail space)

Planning permit

Your application will be taken through the following stages:

  1. Examination of the dossier
The city receives your application dossier and will check if it is complete.

If there is something missing, you’ll receive a notice listing the documents that you need to include. At this point, the procedure is automatically put on hold. You can collect the dossier from the counter of the planning permit office within the month. The city will retain one copy. Once you have all the missing documents, you can re-submit the application.

If it is complete, you will receive a “completeness” notice and a dossier number. The formal application procedure starts at this point. From then on, you can follow the status of your dossier digitally.

  2. Public consultation
In some cases, the city will launch a public consultation. This gives everyone the opportunity to express objections to the permit.

  3. Report of the urban planning official
A planning official makes sure that your application is in line with proper urban planning standards, taking into account all requested essential and non-essential recommendations. He or she then draws up a report and submits it to the board.

  4. Decision of the board
The board will take a decision no later than 75 calendar days after the date of the “completeness” notice (or 105 days if a dossier involves a public consultation).
Once a decision has been taken, you will receive a copy of the it within 10 days.
