We tested a collaborative digitisation method by inviting and selecting 6 Antwerp Fashion Department alumni and matching them with 6 aesthetic equals in digital development. Together, they produced 6 radical digital fashion looks that were guest-styled on an animated avatar and showcased via the launch of an online look-book.

Launch of accessories inspired by characters from video games

Mutani, a growing Antwerp-based start-up, aims to bring fashion and design with influences from the gaming world. Mutani aspires to launch an innovative and stylish collection of accessories inspired by characters from video games. Under the name 'Virtual-to-Reality Fashion Merchandise', Mutani will bring 3D printed accessories enhanced with interactive AR elements. Mutani opts to work with a digital-first design, production and sales method to release this collection sustainably.

Designing digital fashion for the virtual world. Ready for the Cyber Six

Mutani is a company that develops digital fashion for games and online metaverses. These digital designs enter a entirely new market and thus gain market value: they are sold on online marketplaces as NFTs (non-fungible tokens). These are virtual ownership tokens for digital objects, anchored in a blockchain system that records who owns and/or creates them. This system also records sales throughout the lifecycle. These NFTs can be traded in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum, or simply in dollars or euros.

Mutani brought together traditional fashion designers and digital developers to design and develop digital fashion. They created an alternative, complementary business model where creativity can be monetised. Mutani wanted to prove that this business model works and afterwards, cement its place as an early adopter in this pioneering field, with the support of the city.

With this project, Mutani released a digital collection and avatar. Mutani brought together 6 graduates of the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp with 6 digital developers. Together they designed and developed six digital model looks for online presentation and sale.
