POLYPERCEPTION

The benefit of the city's support is that it has opened doors for other support.

Better waste handling with AI

This project innovates in the recycling of plastic packaging waste. Polyperception developed a model to cleverly identify individual components of residual waste. The company worked out a tool to analyse waste by using visual identification, AI and new digital techniques.

This tool allows a waste processing company to put more reusable material back into circulation and to sort at a lower cost. An AI prototype to visually identify waste streams was created. A camera system, mounted above a conveyor belt, credibly demonstrated and validated the core elements of their future commercial product. At the same time, important relationships with industrial partners were established.

It is a model that also can be used by local authorities, companies with mixed waste streams and in the events sector.

Identification of full-sleeved objects in waste processing

Polyperception developed an artificial intelligence-based tool for more efficient sorting of waste. With that tool, waste management companies can recycle better. With funding from the city, Polyperception is looking for a solution to process full-sleeved objects. These wrapped bottles and jars do not allow identification of the material underneath.

This project makes it possible to build AI models that recognize the underlying material. As a result, data-driven operational decisions can be made to further improve recycling rates.
