Symbolische vlaggenmast Het Steen/Symbolic flagpole Het Steen

Omdat het stadsbestuur jaarlijks zeer veel vragen krijgt om themavlaggen aan de voorgevel van het stadhuis te bevestigen, werd door het college van de burgemeester en schepenen beslist om de regel van maximale neutraliteit van het stadhuis te bewaren.

Desondanks wil de stad Antwerpen in uitzonderlijke gevallen tegemoet komen aan de vragen van derden om een thematische vlag of bijzonder doek publiekelijk uit te hangen.

Het Steen, het oudste bewaarde gebouw (13de eeuw) en één van dé toeristische trekpleisters van Antwerpen, is dan ook de aangewezen plek voor de symbolische vlaggenmast van de stad, waar op bepaalde data een specifieke thematische vlag gehesen kan worden.

Because the city council receives very many requests every year to attach thematic flags to the façade of the city hall, it was decided by the College of Mayor and Aldermen to preserve the rule of maximum neutrality of the City Hall.

Nevertheless, in exceptional cases, the city of Antwerp is willing to accommodate third-party requests to publicly display a thematic flag or special cloth.

Het Steen, the oldest preserved building (13th century) and one of Antwerp's main tourist attractions, is therefore the appropriate place for the city's symbolic flagpole, where a specific thematic flag can be hoisted on certain dates.
